F2 OptiProp is an advanced foul-release system delivered in a kit format, consisting of a 2-component (2K) Super Bond Resin Primer, a Tie Coat (intermediate layer), and a Top Coat (finish coat). It is designed to protect propellers and underwater parts from fouling.
The system is suitable for propellers, drives, and other underwater parts made of stainless steel, bronze, NiBrAl, and aluminum.
To select the correct kit size, you need to estimate the surface area of your propeller or drive in m². The F2 OptiProp System is offered in Small and Medium Kits, which are designed for the following area ranges:
- SMALL Kit: Up to 1m²
Small sailboats or drives with propellers up to approximately 20 inches in diameter.
- MEDIUM Kit: Up to 2.5m²
Larger yachts and motorboats with propellers up to approximately 30 inches in diameter, as well as smaller saildrives.
Important: Since the propeller area is difficult to calculate exactly, always choose generously! If your estimated area exceeds 2m², you will need multiple kits.
F2 OptiProp is an environmentally responsible formulation. The system is biocide-free, solvent-free, and free of heavy metals or other toxic additives. It is suitable for areas where conventional biocide-based antifouling coatings are restricted or not permitted.
The system consists of three layers which are applied one after the other (sequentially):
- F2 Super Bond Resin Primer (The adhesion promoter for the metal).
- F2 OptiProp Tie Coat (The intermediate layer).
- F2 OptiProp Top Coat (The protective finish coat).
Prior to this, the metal parts must be thoroughly roughened and carefully cleaned.
F2 OptiProp is designed to be very durable, providing 5+ years of effective protection when applied and maintained correctly. After 5 years, generally only a new layer of the Top Coat is needed over the existing coating, without a complete re-build.
F2 is very durable, but it can be removed again if necessary. For this, there is a special removal kit (F2 EcoRemover). This makes it easy to switch to a different system if needed.

F2 OptiProp vs. other systems
F2 OptiProp
Silicone-based foul-release
Hard antifouling / aerosol AF
✅ Very high: ultra-smooth non-stick surface, fast acceleration & cruising speed
✅ High while underway – effect increases with speed
❌ Moderate; rougher matrix, sometimes increased drag
✅ Free from biocides, PFAS/PTFE, VOCs, and other toxins
⚠️ Biocide-free, yet contains silicone or PFAS/PTFE.
❌ Leaches biocides into the water and often contains high levels of VOCs
✅ 5+ years (with proper application & care)
⚠️ Typically 1–2 seasons, depending on usage and care
❌ Usually 1 season, requires annual reapplication
✅ Super Bond Primer: resistant to hydrodynamic loads and cavitation
⚠️ Effective, but prone to abrasion and edge wear
❌ Critical on rotating metals; chipping may occur
✅ Fouling wipes off easily (without toxic abrasion)
⚠️ Wipe-clean possible, gentle cleaning required
❌ Fouling adheres strongly – cleaning is difficult and produces toxic abrasion
✅ Props, saildrives, shafts, trim tabs; stainless steel / bronze / Nibral / aluminum
✅ Suitable for many metal substrates ⚠️ Caution with silicone: may contaminate paint areas in yards
❌ Limitations on aluminum and drives
✅ Non-stick effect even at moderate speeds or while moored
⚠️ depends on speed
❌ Minimal
✅ Low: one-time application, minimal maintenance, hardly any recoats
⚠️ Moderate: 2–3 recoats within ~5 years
❌ High: requires annual repainting
Note: Performance and service life depend on usage, cruising grounds, and preparation quality.
