How does F2 EcoHull work?
The secret of F2 is Zeronic™—a nature-inspired additive made from natural, inorganic resins. This additive creates an ultra-smooth, extremely hard, and hydrophobic surface on which marine growth can no longer firmly adhere.

In practice, this means:
✅ Easy Cleaning:
Superficial growth can be easily wiped away with a cloth or soft sponge. No tedious scraping or annual repainting.
✅ Protection from Structural Damage:
Barnacles, coral worms, etc., cannot penetrate the F2 surface. Even if the boat is not cleaned for a long time, the surface remains intact.
✅ Natural Self-Cleaning Effect:
For boats with a cruising speed of about 10 knots, a natural self-cleaning effect also supports the performance—depending on the hull shape, cruising time, and local conditions.

Physical Protection through an ultra-smooth, hard Zeronic™ surface
Chemical Protection through Biocidal Antifouling Paints
Biocide-Free Fouling-Release Systems, e.g., silicone-based
✅ Free of biocides, PFAS/PTFE, VOCs, and other toxins
❌ Releases biocides into the water; sanding dust is problematic
⚠️ Biocide-free, but usually silicone- or PFAS/PTFE-containing
✅ 5+ Years (with correct application & maintenance)
❌ Typically 1 season, annual re-paint
⚠️ Typically 1-2 seasons, depending on use & maintenance
✅ No annual repainting or sanding
❌ Regularly sanding / painting / disposal
⚠️ A seasonal top-up is usually recommended
✅ Ultra-smooth, durable surface → less drag, yet still resilient
❌ More and more layers → more and more drag that slows you down
✅ Very smooth, silicone-like surface → low drag ⚠️ But: The surface is usually very soft, sensitive!
✅ Copper-free – compatible with aluminum, saildrives, and trim tabs
❌ Copper-based systems are critical for aluminum
⚠️ Generally possible with a suitable system primer
✅ Growth can be easily wiped away (without toxic abrasion)
❌ Fouling grows on firmly, cleaning is very labor-intensive, toxic abrasion
⚠️ Wipe-cleaning is possible, clean gently
✅ Future-proof: helps you comply with regulations. Can be used worldwide without issues.
❌ Increasing Restrictions
⚠️ Silicone application is restricted in some shipyards.
✅ Spot-repair & partial-area repairs are easily possible
❌ Repeated overhauls are necessary; layers build up
⚠️ Reworking requires a compatible system & a clean environment (silicone!)
✅ Glossy, clear finish
❌ Prone to dulling and chalking
⚠️ Usually a matte to satin silicone finish
Note: Service life and maintenance intervals depend on use, location, and application. “Other Alternatives” refers to silicone-based fouling-release systems; properties may vary per product.
Switching to F2 EcoHull is easy
If the existing bottom coating is still in good condition, it usually does not need to be completely removed. The F2 EcoHull coating is applied in three simple steps:

Step 1: F2 EcoPrimer
The F2 EcoPrimer forms a stable base. It smooths out small imperfections, seals the substrate, and ensures that the following layers adhere optimally.

Step 2: F2 Adhesive Coat
The F2 Adhesive Coat is the adhesion bridge between the base and the finish. It connects the layers to create a durable bond and forms a particularly uniform surface.

Step 3: F2 Top Coat
The F2 Top Coat is the final, high-performance finish: an ultra-smooth, dirt-repellent surface that hinders fouling and noticeably improves efficiency.

The color comes from the Adhesive Coat. The Top Coat is always glossy and transparent, with the optional addition of "Sparkle." For beginners, Sparkle is recommended because it allows you to see immediately which areas have already been coated during application.
For boats with a cruising speed under 10 knots, we recommend a dark color.
Painting over an existing bottom paint?
→ Order package with F2 EcoPrimer.
Do you have a freshly applied new underwater primer?
→ No additional primer needed.
→ Important: For solvent-containing primers, let dry/air out for at least 7 days, so that no solvents are enclosed under F2 EcoHull. After that, sand once more and clean thoroughly. Only then apply F2 Adhesive Coat.
Returns are excluded for quality assurance reasons.

FAQ
For more information, please visit our Support-Center.
What is F2 EcoHull and how does it work?
F2 is a biocide-free coating that creates an ultra-smooth surface, making it difficult for fouling to adhere. It is a "fouling-release" system that physically repels growth instead of killing it.
How long does a coating with F2 EcoHull last?
With correct application and care, F2 lasts for at least 5 years. As it does not wear down, no annual repainting is required.
Is F2 EcoHull really eco-friendly?
Yes, 100%. F2 is free of biocides, toxins, PFAS, and solvents. It does not leach into the water and is a future-proof solution that actively protects marine ecosystems.
How complex is the application of F2 EcoHull?
The application is simple and can be done in just three layers. Many of our customers paint their boats themselves. You can find detailled application instructions here.
